Harry O. Charlesworth, age 101, of Duncansville, passed peacefully Tuesday evening, February 6, 2024, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was born September 15, 1922 in Altoona, a son of the late Albert and Nettie G. (Moore) Charlesworth. He married Margaret M. Yingling on May 14, 1948 at Hick's Memorial United Methodist Church in Duncansville. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2019.
Surviving is a son, David Charlesworth (Fayleen) of Duncansville; a daughter, Jan Grinder (John) of Duncansville; 6 grandchildren: Rachel Wisniewski, Gregory Muri, Aaron Charlesworth, Erica Ohara, Sean Charlesworth, and Alaina Gelineau; 10 great-grandchildren: Savannah and Morgan Wisniewski, Maddie and Joshua Charlesworth, Jack and Bodhi Gelineau, and Tristan, Rory, Devin, and Lyla Ohara; and a sister, Ethel Landis of Duncansville.
He was preceded in death by 9 siblings: Mary Woodhead, David W. Charlesworth, Ruth Wolf, Margaret McMullen, A. Alan Charlesworth, Alpharetta Ellenberger, Robert Charlesworth, Donald Charlesworth, and an infant brother.
Harry was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a US Navy veteran, serving during WWII on the USS Bonhomme Richard. He retired from A&P Bakery in 1978, and then worked with Bill Leighty for many years on the farm.
He was a member of Hick’s Methodist Church, where he was in the Gene Lindsey Sunday school class and sang in the choir. He was also a past member of the Hollidaysburg Alumni Choir.
Harry enjoyed walking in the woods, gardening and flowers, and building G-Scale miniature houses.
Friends will be received from 1 until the 3pm funeral service on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Duncansville. Pastor Timothy Guyer will officiate. Interment will take place at Alto-Reste Cemetery.
